Production Photos from There Once Were Two Clouds in the Sky

Actors, Anna Gwaltney and Madeline Rose Parks, on the red carpet at the Glass Ceiling Breakers festival.

I love getting a nice batch of production photos back, and when you have some far-out costumes to showcase, that just adds an extra layer of fun! THERE ONCE WERE TWO CLOUDS IN THE SKY is a short comedy/drama where two clouds (yes, clouds are the characters!) strive to find purpose in their short lives before dissipating. It has been performed by middle-school actors to middle-aged actors and resonates at various points in one’s life. It first premiered at the fantastic Fusion Theatre (and won the Branford Gromelski Jury Award in THE SEVEN). I’ve seen photos from this play where people costume it up or down, and both styles work in their own way. But these current production photos fall in the “costumed up” category!

A week or so before the opening of the show, the super-talented director, who has called himself “the king of camp” (love it!), was at a party and was talking about the play and his costume ideas to a couple who, he found out, just happened to be, yup, NYC fashion designers. They generously invited him over to help him put together the costumes (how awesome are people, right?!) and voila! The cloud costumes were a puffy gorgeous cotton-candy hit!

Creative team for THERE ONCE WERE TWO CLOUDS IN THE SKY: L to R: Anna Gwaltney (actor), Tara Meddaugh (playwright), Lex Laas (director) and Madeline Rose Parks (actor)

Costumes aside, I loved all the elements the director, Lex Laas, and the actors, Anna Gwaltney and Madeline Rose Parks, brought to this play. They collaborated brilliantly, drew out so much humor and delight, but also connection and beauty, and were a dream to work with. I loved the production! THERE ONCE WERE TWO CLOUDS was produced by Theatre Revolution and performed at Philipstown Depot Theater in the Glass Ceiling Breakers festival. Production photos by Sarah Jay Halliday (check out her awesome work!)!

(Shout out also to Brattleboro Union High School and Oregon Trail Middle School Theatre for their recent productions of the play too!)
