The Moon River Raft Monologue Published in "The Best Women's Stage Monologues 2023
This anthology came out in late 2023 and I can't believe I'm SO LATE to share this--but, I'm incredibly honored that my monologue from my play, THE MOON RIVER RAFT, is included in THE BEST WOMEN'S STAGE MONOLOGUES 2023 published by Smith & Kruas and edited by Debbie Lamedman.
Huge gratitude always to my husband who is my first at-home audience (and gets to hear me do all the characters!), my original team at Westchester Collaborative Theater, actors Missy Flower and Kelly Kirby, and director Brenda Hettmansberger, as well as the dramaturgs/writers who gave such valuable feedback, like Kevin Christopher Snipes, Peter Andrews, Gabe Davis, and also musician Anne Carpenter, for her gorgeous rendition of “Moon River.” Thanks also to director, producer and actor Angela Hoey at Some Small Show as well as Limelight Theatre, director Lex Laas and actors Willow Lautenberg and Alex Zografos. So lucky to have had these awesome people bringing this work to life! And happy to share a piece of that play in this new anthology!
Now, of course, I have to enclose a few photos to see what Kiwi (our ultimate superior judge!) thinks of the anthology!
So…what is the monologue about? Well, first… THE MOON RIVER RAFT is about sibling rabbits, waiting for a mysterious “moon river raft” to take them across the river to a beautiful strange hushed paradise. But before her sister arrives, injured rabbit, Selena, is alone, assuming her non-injured sister, Meredith, has abandoned her in a tree stump to survive on her own. However, there’s actually a really good reason why Meredith didn’t come back to her earlier. And it has to do with some really mean rabbits…
In this monologue, Pit Trap Meredith, Meredith defends Selena’s accusations of abandonment, and in the end, even turns the tables on her sister.
