This is a 2-minute dramatic/comedic monologue from the absurdist comedy, Brush Them Fleas. In “The Meaning of Plants” Stacy reveals she dislikes beautiful flowers, which tend to hold meanings, such as “I love you, “I’m sorry,” or “You died.” Instead, she prefers the brightness of dandelions, which are not given as meaningful gifts, or moreover, the humble, yet important potato, whose reality lies hidden beneath our own world. This is appropriate for teens through adults, and while written for a female character, this monologue is gender neutral.
